The Voice of God

refreshing devotional

As I sit in silence writing this passage, I hear the song, The Voice of God by Dante Bowe, playing in my ear as if I were wearing headphones with noise cancellation. In this season, my focus has been on reacquainting myself with the voice of God, Yah/Yahweh/The Great I Am. I know God’s voice and how He has chosen to speak to me in the past, but the deeper I go in my relationship with Him, the more I understand that God, in His sovereignty, may change how He chooses to relay His messages to me.

It is essential that we, as believers, learn to discern God’s voice, especially during times of transition and new seasons in our lives. Making decisions without seeking God’s guidance can lead to missed opportunities, longer periods of recovery from disobedience, and the need to repeat lessons. I have personally experienced this and recognize more than ever the need to listen to God’s voice more intentionally for my life and business.

Recently, I realized it was time for me to spend a little more time sitting quietly in God’s presence to hone in on what and how God is speaking to me during this season of my life. It’s easy to reflect on the past and how God spoke to me back then. However, as we mature in our trust and faith in the Father, we should expect things to change in how He communicates with us. I liken this to the natural progression of a child learning to read. In kindergarten, you are taught to read using pictures and short words. However, once you enter the 9th grade, you’ve progressed to reading chapter books that are often long and contain virtually no images except for maybe one of the author.

That’s how it is with the Voice of God. In the beginning, you may experience His voice through interactions with people such as pastors and ministers of a church. But as you grow in your relationship with God, you may hear his audible voice, recognize His prompting and guidance through reading the Bible, or learn that he speaks to you through dreams while you sleep. God speaks to all of His children in different ways based on how He created each of us. And while the communication styles may be different, one thing He promises in his word is that His sheep know his voice, John 10:27.

So, as you go throughout the rest of this day and the week, ask yourself, “Am I fine-tuned to God’s voice, and am I flexible enough to adapt to how he wants to communicate specifically with me in this season?” Take note of the answer you get and swiftly make the necessary adjustments. God already has the strategies we need to navigate the waters of our lives, but it’s our responsibility to seek Him, listen to Him, and obey His instructions.

As always, thank you for stopping by. I pray this message has been refreshing to your soul and spirit. Until next time… Be safe and Be well.
